Historic Rich Hill stands as a silent witness to centuries of history. We are a community dedicated to the preservation of this landmark and the telling of its story.
From its early beginnings to its role in the Underground Railroad, every brick holds a story waiting to be told.
1666 — 1729
In 1666, “Rich Hills,” a 600-acre tract of land, was patented by Hugh Thomas. In 1714, Dr. Gustavus Brown purchased 300 acres, and by 1729 the construction of the house was complete. Built by hand using local materials, the house served as the social and economic center for the Rich Hill community.
